Run time
I leave for basic in 8 days and I have the feeling the all my fretting is probably just cold feet but...
My recruiter has made it sound like there's almost no running at boot camp to prep for the prt. I run three times a week, and I have been for months, but I'm just not that fast. I have plenty of stamina... I can keep going for miles, but I've never been speedy. At best my 1.5 mile run is between 15:30 and 16 and as a 24 year old female I need to be down to 14 minutes or less. Am I going to be able to work and shave any time off at all during boot? I've never been super athletic, I just run because I enjoy it. I'll talk to my recruiter at our next meeting tomorrow, but does anyone here have any advice? |

I'm same gender and age group as you. The passing time for a PRT is 15:30 for us. I'm not sure where you got the 14:00 from.
Don't sweat it. I failed my first PRT in bootcamp with like a 16:30 and then got a 13:45 on the second one. Even if you don't specifically run a lot in bootcamp, you'll still get more fit. |

I don't know how much running you will do at basic, I was in an 800 div so our pt was different. This also won't e much help to you as you are leaving pretty quick but some good advice. The best way I have found to shave time is to do interval/sprint work. Go to a track and sprint the straight and slow jog the curves, sprint 30 seconds and jog a minute, any type of speed work is going to help you run a faster 1.5 miles. Make sure to not only do that though, keep doing your long distance runs as well.

When you go to Freedom Hall for PT (which you'll do several times in between PFAs) you'll usually have some kind of run training. There will be some interval stuff, where you'll run a lap and then stop and do an exercise, repeat for a while, and sometimes they'll just have you run for X minutes, the last of which is a full 20. You'll be fine.

Do you still have to get a "Good" passing to pass bootcamp? Or is satisfactory sufficient?
I know at one point to pass boot a "Good" score was required, which would be 14:15 for a 24-year-old female.

Sat is all that's required, by definition. Your RDCs might try to motivate you by telling you everyone's going to pass alpha male standards (like they have to, as RDCs), but it's just talk.

Before I got to bootcamp I wasn't doing good with my run, but the PT helped me get better. |
