Anytime you are in sea duty, you can be sent on deployment. On a shore duty you will be staying behind.

However, sea duty does not mean you will be at sea the entire 3-5 years.

Shore doesn't necessarily mean you'll be on shore the entire time either, especially for jobs like HM.
