Consider being extremely strict about what you "need" sent to you, by the way. You're going to be at school for quite a while, giving you tons of time to slowly accumulate homey junk that you will eventually have to send back home or throw away when you realize how little of it you can actually keep (due to space restrictions) when you go to a ship. The longer you can get by with minimum, the less trouble it'll be in the future.

If someone told me this when I was in A school (and if I'd listened, ha ha) my car's trunk and backseat might not be currently full of crap I need to drive home with me to leave behind.

Forget the civies until you get there...you cant wear them until you complete a certain amount of time anyway.(usually 2 or 3 weeks, depending on when you class up)..by then you will have an address to have stuff sent to you. Get your cell phone, that will be handy to have, but know the cell reception sucks there!

Thanks for all the advice. I've decided on donating most of my old clothes, and packing a small-ish duffel bag that I'll get shipped to me after PIR

I will ask my parents to bring my phone, laptop, toiletries and all in a black messenger bag. would that be allowed or is it backpacks only?

Should be just fine. You can't wear a messenger bag across your chest, but on one shoulder is authorized. Good luck finding a free shoulder.
