Aircrew Billets?
I've read that I can volunteer for aircrew (and subs, now that they let women aboard). I was told to make sure I get a language that is more likely to get aircrew. Does anyone have any insight as to which languages those would be? I scored a 124 on my DLAB, so I'm hoping for Korean, as it's the Cat IV I have the most experience with.

That is a question for the CTI detailer at bootcamp.
To be clear - all CTIs "volunteer" for subs and aircrew in their paperwork. It doesn't mean they're likely to get it, it mostly depends on whether there's a billet available. Aircrew billets are the rarest in my experience, I know less than a dozen and most did a shore tour first. To be considered, get high PRT scores and be good at swimming. |

Manned aircrew is going away within the next 3 years with VQ-1 being phased out (and along with it the EP-3E).
Since the training is so long for a CT, and then following on with Aircrew training (NACCS, SERE, CNATT, etc), there probably wouldn't be enough time for you to finish the training pipeline itself and still have time to get qualified at the squadron and go on to deploy as a qualified aircrewman. It's a loooooong process and they're going to want to make sure there's enough time for the Navy to get solid use out of you; so don't be surprised if you run into road blocks trying to be a flying CT. There are a lot of things in play with that and with each passing day it's moving further down the tracks towards Decomm. So I guess my overall point is don't go looking for a rate specifically for these orders, because it's a long shot even for guys who are already much further along. Pick something that as a whole you're gonna be happy doing, and if you get to do some special orders then that's just icing on the cake! /r CTT1 (Current CT Aircrew)
