Default 2 weeks out with a diver contract!

Hello everyone, Im new to the forum and I have a couple questions when it comes to dive prep.
Ive been in the dep program going on 6 months now and leave in 2 weeks. I got my divers contract about 2 months into the program and im really excited to leave but very very nervous about dive prep (mainly the tredding) Im not very good at it. Right now at the pool I can tred with fins no weight no problem, but when you add weight to the mix I lagg behind. As of right now training at the pool its holding a 15-17 lb dive brick with one hand for min. switch, the both hands under water for a min and I can do it but definitely struggle a bit. Holding the brick out of the water with both hands though is next to impossible for me, I immediately sink. And ive heard the horror story about the 25lb weight and good god it makes me very nervous. Granted ive talked to some buddies who have gone through bc already who where a lot better at tredding than me and even they have said the tredding they have you do in bc helped them out a little bit so I guess it should help me out a decent bit. I guess the main mindset I have is well when it comes to training at dive prep that cant expect you to do everything with perfect form when they have you doing 1000 plus pushups or 3000 plus lunges they just want to see you not quit and keep pushing forward, so i assume its the same when it comes to the tredding as far as practice goes, so what im getting at is I know for the test you are expected to do it without your chin dropping below the surface but during practice is it the same? even with the 25lb weight? and how anal are they when it comes to this? If I cant do it right off the back am I expected to get dropped? I know the first time this is done only for 1 min until everyone has done it atleast 5-6 times then 1:30 and so on.

I work with someone who went through dive school. I'll ask him a few questions and see what he can give me and I can relay the answers.

From what my buddy said. In dive prep, he said you practice a couple times with the treading then you get to test with it. And then if you fail, you get a second choice. If you fail again, you get rolled back. And you have to pass on the first try.

The treading at dive prep is intense, a lot of guys drop because of it. You will be treading without fins on and holding a 25 pound weight plate over your head without fins. And if you fail the tread test they drop you right away now because of big class sizes. I'm in Prep up here and we're different from EOD/Diver put still talk to some guys from my bootcamp div.

Get comfortable with the eggbeater kick now, and drown before you drop the weight or touch the wall also. They will save you, seen it happen.

Great advice on not quitting. They can always make you stronger or a better swimmer, but they can't give you more heart. If you show a willingness to NEVER QUIT on yourself or your team, that makes a world of difference with the spec war guys I've worked with.

I went through dive prep about 2 years ago. You will tread while holding a 25 lb weight against your chest, we never did it without fins. The first time you are in lines of about 5 people and take turns treading for a minute, then rotate to end of line where you continue to tread without weight, you do this for at least 5 rotations. The next time it's gets longer and longer but using the same format. This is usually done at the end of a workout so you are not fresh but it's doable. I don't remember many, if any, days where we did 1000 push ups or 3000 lunges, you aren't going to BUD/s. You will work out hard, and it's meant to be that way. You will lose a lot of your class, it's meant to be that way. We started with 24, 8 made it to dive school, and all 8 passed dive school. Dive prep is meant to weed out more people than dive school. It's hard and its meant to be that way. If something happens and you don't pass an evolution getting dropped or rolled back, in my experience, changes often. I have seen someone dropped and someone else rolled back for the same reason, I don't know the method behind the madness. Give it your all and good luck.
