NSW/Spec Ops Billets for CTI/IS???
Hey everyone,
Just curious if someone can help shed some light on the topic of receiving NSW billets for either CTI or IS. Because this is such a "hush hush" position, I understand the secrecy. So far I have gathered that for a CTI, if given the right circumstances, he could be apart of the TIO (Tactical Information Operations) Program. And for an IS, he could receive the 3912 NEC as an NSW Intel Specialist. I was wondering how accurate and updated this information is. Also, would anyone here be able to explain exactly what these 2 opportunities would present as far as mission objectives? |

Check out this thread for information on TIO.
From what I understand it's a possibility for CTs, but only after re-enlistment. You can't get that type of job straight out of DLI/Corry. I'm a CTI (still in training, although I'm getting closer to the end), I don't know much about IS. |

MILPERSMAN 1306-984 states "Due to the nature of work and requirement to operate independently, first tour Sailors are not authorized to apply" ... Does "First tour" refer to a first enlistment overall, or just the first time going from Shore to Sea/Sea to Shore? |

CTIs don't have sea and shore rotations, we have CONUS and OCONUS rotations.
But yeah, by first-term they mean your first enlistment. Realistically - you spend a month or two on hold, then 6 months~ 1.5 years learning your language at DLI, then you go to follow-on training at a destination pretty much determined by your language (the NIOC in Hawaii, Georgia, Maryland or Texas), spend some more time in hold - it's common for people with CAT-IV languages to not start learning how to do their actual job until 2+ years into their enlistment. There's no realistic way to accumulate the expertise necessary for stuff like Aircrew or TIO in your first term. |
