Default A-School Leave

Someone mentioned something called winter stand down for A-school? Can anyone explain what this is?

In December just about everyone (unless you are deployed) gets 1-2 weeks when they can take leave without problems trying to get it approved.
Usually, half the command gets the week of Christmas off, and the other half gets New Years. While most people take leave at this time, it is not free leave, you will still be charged for the days you're gone.

You earn leave at the rate of 2.5 days per month (30 days per year). That's the leave credit you'll be using up for pretty much any time you get non-emergency leave, as I understand it. So if there's a week you're authorized to use leave, but you've only got 5 days earned, you'll only be able to take 5.

You are able to go into the red on leave days... lots of guys who graduated with me in November took 14 days of leave in December and went negative on their leave days. That just means you're gonna be spending several months earning back leave days.
