Default Secret clearance required??

I have a simple possession of marijuana charge. I was wondering if this would effect my chance of becoming a PS or Yeoman (YN)??? What's the difference between the two?

I'm a PS. PS doesn't require a clearance, but at some point you'll need at least a secret. Yeoman, on the other hand, need at least a secret and will sometimes require a Top Secret. Having a minor charge might not be a problem for you. It depends on a lot of things, such as, how long ago it was, etc.

There's not a whole lot of difference between a YN and a PS. A YN pretty much does everything a PS can do with some stuff added on to it. YN can deal with security clearances, admin messages, other clerical work. A PS generally deals with pay, travel claims, benefits, and is more of a customer service type job.

Between the two, the opportunities are way different. PS, honestly, don't have a ton of opportunities for cool stuff. Not like YN, anyway. YN can be flag writers, for example. But both jobs are essential to the Navy. Both rates are fairly easy. YN school is a little tougher than PS. But I found PS to be super easy. Some folks in my class struggled because we are required to memorize all the form numbers and stuff. There's a lot of forms in the Navy. A lot. A whole lot. Really.

I'm worried too. AC requires a clearance (I was going for IT but my family is foreign so they didn't give me Top Secret) and in my NASIS it says my birthplace is Miami, even though I was born in Israel (a mistake bc my city wasn't on the list) I'm hoping they'l give it to me since it says in the notes about the mistake...

You need to speak with your investigator about that ASAP. To us security folks, it's gonna come out eventually that you weren't born in the US, and to find out that it was Israel could cause big problems (they spy on us pretty aggressively).

You either need to correct your NASIS (aka your SF87) or discuss what happened with your investigator. That could derail your clearance and getting denied a clearance once you've applied will make it significantly more difficult in the future.

**EDIT**
Didn't see that last bit about you getting it to them in the notes. Good on you for getting that corrected; things can be worked with when you're upfront and honest!
