I moved into the USS Arizona from the USS John F. Kennedy after it was shut down... while I was sad to leave the JFK, I was honored to be in a ship with so much history. I've now got both the Ship 09 and Ship 14 coins... thanks again, Craig, for the USS Arizona coin!
Sadly, the current LCPO doesn't allow recruits to look at the displays on the quarterdeck, but I got to see it all anyway because my RDC invited me to her final reenlistment ceremony that was held right in front of it all. I also got to linger and take a better look at everything while roving with the OOD a few weeks back. It's all very impressive!

I've been browsing the boards but decided to register and post after reading all this (its a bit old I know). But I felt compelled because my husband went to boot on the 25th of January and he got to call me last night due to a paperwork issue that needs my attention (something about meps not filing me properly as his wife. Anyways he also gave me his address and he's a division of the USS Arizona.
It kind of gave me the chills because I know my history, at least to know the dark history of the Arizona's bombing at Pearl Harbor (didn't know even close to what's all in this post though). Doesn't help that I've had recurring nightmares ever since him signing to be on a damn submarine, that he's gonna drown in one of those tin cans. But after reading this, its no less dark and dismal, but there does come a sense now that its not a bad omen and he'll serve the Arizona proud in his division. |
