Default 18 Weeks Later... I'm Back! (Fall 2014)

Any Questions about bootcamp, or the nuke pipeline ask me! I was there long enough to see behind the scenes on alot of things, and i'll answer what I am allowed to!

Nuke A-school. Had to wait on orders to get here after mine expired.

Great Lakes for 18 weeks? Sounds rough.

How's boot camp in the summer? Is it crazy hot or fairly cool but with jacked up humidity that makes it hot?

Its soo hot! Marching all day with a backpack on, then finally getting back to the compartment and your back is soaking wet, then you fold this blouse, put it in day stow, and wear it the next day... still damp.

That THU life though. Spent more time in Great Lakes as a Sailor than I did a Recruit... back when Ship 05 was nicknamed the "Pensacola Reserve Fleet" due to all the AW's and AC's who had been there upwards to a year.

Regardless... welcome back!

Thanks Haasino! There are alot of Nukes there currently, and PACTS believe or not. But Ship 05 is pretty good. However now that I am in A school, I can realise I absolutely made the right choice in joining the Navy!!

I wouldn't say common... but Recruits going into special programs that require more stringent medical exams are more likely than your average GM, AE, etc. to end up in the Temporary Holding Unit following graduation while they wait on medical waivers. It's not bootcamp... you work admin and support jobs, stand watch with RDC's during the night, and you get liberty in phases like you will at A School. I got to spend weekends in Chicago and Lake Forest, then moved on to Pensacola with everyone else.

I know from our 800 division we probably had 3-4 that had to stay after we left to wait on med results for one reason or another.

Never thought about the possibility of staying out there after boot camp

I actually enjoyed working "behind the scenes" so to speak. The Ship 01 watch was always interesting.. seeing all the new arrivals. Especially knowing you were those people, it's unbelievable to be able to see your transition.

Yeah that does sound interesting to see all the new people coming in and watch them transform into sailors
