Hair in bootcamp
So now that girl's don't have to cut their hair anymore, what are the regulations? There is no female recruiter in my office, but there is one about an hour away. All she said when I asked was that braids have to be symmetrical. Can we bring the sock bun inserts to boot camp? Or do we have to wrap it around itself? What about bobby pins? My hair is about 2 inches past my shoulders, no bangs, and I don't want to cut it. I ship out in a month and am just trying get some ideas to play around with before I get there. Thank you!

From everything I have read, you are allowed 2 barrettes and unlimited bobby pins to get the rest under control. I, too, am curious if I can bring the sock bun or if i'll have to make one... I figure I can have my husband mail me one once i get there, if it's okay to have them in BC. One of my friends is currently in A-school and said that there's a few different hairstyles that are now acceptable. Perhaps try good ol' Google for 2015/16 updated acceptable Navy hairstyles.

Dellis is correct about the 2 barrettes and unlimited Bobby pins (but not to the point your hair is matted down).
Sock buns are allowed in the fleet. I haven't heard otherwise for boot camp. The new regs have pictures showing what's acceptable. http://www.navy.mil/ah_online/um/femalehair.html

It has to be low for your cover it fit still. I'm not sure if you know human anatomy very well but I have been putting mine just above my occiput (its the "bumpy" bone just above the nape of your neck). I decided that I am bringing, and wearing a sock bun insert the day I ship that will match my hair. I'm sure they'll have them at the Nex as they have them at Walgreens and the Dollar Tree.
