Hey guys, I'm an ITS and I was wondering what happens if you're determined to be unfit for sub duty. Do you keep your rate and just go surface?

I dont know the answer but I am curious as well. My best guess would be it would depend on when the determination is made. If it is made at the beginning of A school then I guess you could rerate as anything but if it is near the end they have already invested money in your IT career they may just put you on surface.

It is possible that if you fail out and the surface is not open, you could be sent to fleet Undesignated...or just be discharged out of the navy. The needs of the navy....if they dont need you, then you could very well be gone.
