Default POTUS support

I'm not sure if its something that can much be talked about on here but I was interested in going the EOD route and saw that it mentions multiple times how it supports secret service which interested me. I was just wondering if it's a common thing that EOD does and if they only allow a select few to be able to do it.

My father got to attend Bush's inauguration in 04 (EODMU2) but he was also a chief at the time, I'm not sure what the requirements are to do that. He said they would just check buildings and basically assess potential threats.
