Default CTN vs CTI

Hello all,

I'm currently waiting for a med waiver to process, but until then I have a question about CT rates.

I scored a 99 on the ASVAB and was told I have my pick of rate. My parents were both Navy CT's, CTR I believe, so I am looking to sign as a CTN. I love computers and the apparent challenge of CTN A-school excites me, so I am leaning heavily towards that. However, my recruiter wants me to take the DLAB to see if I qualify for CTI. My question is what differences, if any, are there between CTN and CTI (aside from the obvious computer "hacking" vs translation work).

Apparently there is a pay bonus and enlistment bonus, however I am not joining the military for the money so that is a moot point.

Any guidance is welcomed, and thank you in advance!

One thing to consider is that CTNs do kinda the same job anywhere they go, and they're almost exclusively shore. CTIs have deployment opportunities (ship, sub, or aircrew) where they do jobs that are pretty different from what they might do on shore.

But if CTN is what you want, go for it. People who aren't intrinsically motivated to be CTIs tend to be pretty miserable in the job.
