What is the sleeping environment like?
My biggest concern so far is how i'll go to sleep. Is there AC? Anyone snoring? Any ambient noises? i have tinnitus so i don't fall asleep easily unless there is some sort of noise distraction. Or will i just be so tired at the end of the day that i'll just pass out?

Where? At bootcamp? In the barracks? On the ship?
In bootcamp you'll be in a big bay with everyone else, with red lights on at night. In the barracks you'll have 1-3 roommates. The set up is more structured in A school than the normal barracks (you'll have more privacy there too) On the ship, it will be kind of like bootcamp because you'll share a berthing with about 20 other people. But you'll have curtains around your rack for privacy. Coffin racks are pretty small; you may not have room to sit up in your rack.

In bootcamp at any time after taps there will be noise from: the watch (walking around, waking up their relief, relief getting dressed, turning over the pistol, getting instructions on the deck log from starboard watch etc), people snoring, people waking up to use the head, the ventilation etc.
Around the time people fall asleep there will also be noise from people braiding hair/chatting, doing their ironing/chatting, complaining, gossiping etc. But yeah, bootcamp is mostly an exercise in sleep deprivation. I've never heard of anyone having issues falling asleep unless their neighbor was a really heavy snorer. |
