Switching to Undesignated
Hi. I'm currently enlisted as an E3 Seabee EO. RTC shipping date of 20140205. I am trying to leave for RTC as soon as possible. Luckily my recruiter is amazing and he's just a stand up guy overall. I've literally only had support, and prompt resolve of any issues. He's put in the normal request for a roll over to find a way to get me shipped sooner. My questions are: Has anyone or does anyone know of someone...who has tried going this route? Did it actually make it possible to jump into RTC sooner, was it complicated?
Thanks for any feedback.

You definitely can switch to Undes, and it might push your shipdate closer. It's hard to say though - the average wait is about 6 months navy-wide , and undes is a little bit less. You're already down to 4ish, so it might not get you there any sooner.
Also realize that undes is considered a relatively undesirable job for a reason - you will most likely be doing heavy labor and cleaning. You will also not be able to advance until you strike for a job and finish its A school - there is no such thing as an Undes Petty Officer. |

You should just put in DAR's every month, undes isn't the route you want to go in my opinion.

Hey guys, thanks again for the feedback. I decided to stick with my rating unless there's a smarter switch that opens up. Most of my life I wanted to be mainly out at sea and doing Air Crew SAR, and until the actual day at MEPS with the job counselor, I hadn't ever heard of Seabees. The more and more I research and talk with people, the more it seems like a perfect fit if I can't be in the water due to passing the age requirements. All the humanitarian work they do seems amazing. So, hooyah!, Seabees it is.
Delucabv23, if it's what you're aiming for, keep at it and don't give up!
