Default Buddy Program

I was wondering if the buddy program is still offered or if it's even a thing. I have a friend who is considering enlisting and we would like to go to basic together and maybe even our first duty station. I know it probably depends on what rate he gets and all that but is this even possible?

It's a thing, but it's a complicated thing.

Basically buddy system (through bootcamp) is shipping together and being in the same division. That means you need to ship on the same day. Since you already have a shipdate, your buddy would have to find a slot that ships on the same day, and I wouldn't count on him being able to do that. Also it doesn't guarantee that neither of you will get ASMOed after you get to bootcamp. . .

The only way to extend buddy system through first duty station is if you're both the same kind of PACT, and I wouldn't recommend giving up whatever contract you have to go PACT.

If you have the same rate, you can get the buddy program through a school assuming neither of you are asmo'ed.
