So between the time out of A school until C school, could I take leave and go home to visit family or do I have to stay in GreatLakes for the couple months or so for my orders?

The way I understand it is that you get two weeks after A school to take your leave before reporting to your first command. If you're going directly to C school, it might be better to wait, I hear they're pretty short follow on courses.
I don't think most people go directly from A-school to C-school though, I hear that a sea or shore duty stint typically separates the two. |
