The reasoning behind why the US government is so harsh against even the smallest financial issues is because you're required to hold a Secret security clearance as a Nuke... and as history has shown again and again, the vast majority of spies have betrayed their country due to financial issues. I can understand the frustration when your issue is so minor... and it will likely be cleared with a waiver... but you're dealing with documented incidences that have made even the smallest financial blemish a major red flag.
