Buddy program

I've heard about the buddy program. Is it something they still offer? A friend told me she is intetested in joining. We are both female so is it possible to go to RTC together?

Thanks

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I heard..... nope. they do not. they an fill all their slots without having to go through the hassle of trying to accommodate a request like this.

But it is possible to get the same ship dates.. as my buddy and I have the same ship date. I would think going to meps to pick a rating at the same time would better the chances but I wouldn't count on it though.

No, the buddy system's still a thing, but I believe you have to pick rates that ship on the same day. That might limit your choices. It's also only for bootcamp and doesn't guarantee that neither of you will be asmoed.

Males who are PACT can sign up for a version that extends to the first duty station, but females aren't eligible (and I wouldn't generally recommend PACT anyway).

I'm not planning on going undes ;) thanks

Is there a limit to how many people can do the buddy system together?

Ok thats what i thought, but i had heard somebody say there was no limit.

NavyPanther 12-02-2014 10:34 AM

It sounds hard enough for two people to buddy up I couldn't imagine 4 or more people

DPearson 12-02-2014 12:05 PM

The only thing I really know about the buddy system though is that there is one. What are the other specifics and regulations?

NavyPanther 12-02-2014 03:18 PM

From what I've read online up to 4 females can buddy up for boot camp only. Males have 2 buddy programs available to them, 1 is that same as for females, the other is to be buddies all the way to first duty station.

This is what I found online http://usmilitary.about.com/cs/navyjoin/a/navybuddy.htm

It is my understanding from my son's experience that you need to be in the same rate,,,my son and his BFF were nukes and were going to go together...HOWEVER, I put a stop to it...those two were a night mare in high school and I just knew they would cause or get into trouble if together! SO they went 2 months apart! lol Even when not together they seemed to cause the same trouble at boot! They couldn't stop laughing at some of the recruits when they couldn't do certain PT...my son's friend wrote me and told me that one of his RDC's even asked him if he knew my son as they acted alike! Nothing like having nukes that are actually jocks and all muscle!

Yeah the info is very helpful I just wasn't sure how current it really is hence why I made this thread. I figured someone here might have first hand knowledge on the subject :)

DPearson 12-05-2014 08:26 AM

Yeah, i was glad to find this thread because I am doing the buddy system with 3 other people from my school, (there are 6 of us joining the navy out of a class of 41 students), and really needed some details as to how it worked.

NavyPanther 12-05-2014 05:08 PM

Good luck let us know how it goes.

HM DEEZLE 12-05-2014 06:21 PM

Hmm Im guessing my recruiter told me a fib...
