Hometown Recruiting After Bootcamp

Can anyone elaborate a bit on how hometown recruiting after bootcamp works?

It depends a little on your recruiter.

Sometimes they let you leave at noon. Sometimes they have you work the whole day. Some have you come to DEP meetings to talk to deppers, or go to career/recruiting fairs, or just do paperwork.

So would that mean that you come home right after bootcamp to do it? And if so, how long do you stay before going to your A school?

Recruiting Assistance Leave Program

1. What Is the Recruiting Assistance Leave Program?

a. Members on regular leave between “A” or “C” school or apprenticeship training and their first permanent duty station may participate in a program of 5 consecutive days of assistance to recruiting.

b. This assistance includes but is not limited to the following items:

(1) regularly scheduled school canvassing visits,

(2) speaking at recruiting functions and civic activities,

(3) follow-up of PRO-NAVY-RTC referrals, and

(4) accompanying recruiters on home visits.

2. How to Document Participation

a. After completion of recruiting assistance, members must obtain documentation of participation by endorsement from the Navy Recruiting District.

b. Upon reporting to next duty station, such documentation will constitute the authority for personnel officers and personnel support activity detachments to credit member with up to 5 days of non-chargeable leave.
So, basically, you can do it during your transfer leave from school to your first duty station... and as Guppy mentioned, how much you actually spend at the recruiting office will depend on the district and what they need from you. Some people just show up for a DEP meeting to talk to Future Sailors and get the form signed off... some have to come in every morning for 5 days. Some Sailors find it useful to get back 5 days of leave... others would rather spend time with their family and just offer to make an unofficial visit to a DEP meeting and don't bother with RAP.

Okay I see, so it isn't right after bootcamp. Thanks for the help, I'll talk to my recruiter more about it.

Yeah, depending on your rating, it'll fall sometime after A School...

Can this only be the recruiting office you originally enlisted out of?

No, according to the instructions, there is no restriction to what district you assist.

Would this be offered in some of the longer pipelines? With NF I've been hearing those getting out of a-school have long waits before PowerSchool.

Yes, you'll be offered 10 days of leave after A School... 10 days after Power... and 10 days of transfer leave after Prototype. You would be eligible to do RAP during any of these. Only time you're not eligible would be during additional holiday leave around Christmas.
