Bootcamp and the holiday's

Hey guys. New to the forum here. I'm a [future] CTN. I ship out 20141027. Should I expect to miss Christmas & New Years? I guess I'm asking, do the holiday's (Thanksgiving and such) mess up the RTC schedule?...

From what I understand is you'll be there for the holiday, just not doing a whole lot.

I typed up an answer to this earlier but I guess it didn't go through. I was in boot camp for Christmas 2012 and New year's 2013. For the most part those days will be the same as a Sunday - letter writing time in the morning followed by field day and some drills or the rdcs telling stories in the evening. The galley will be decorated, and they'll have special food like slices of pie and chocolate milk that you don't normally get.

My rdcs were super cool about Christmas - we had little Charlie Brown trees in the compartments, they let us listen to the radio for the first time, we actually got to eat one homemade gift that somebody's buddy had mailed in, and our 3rd rdc sat down at the table with us for Christmas dinner and let us talk. Mileage may vary though -I heard of other divs that got beat for Christmas.

Edit - looking at your ship date, you might be done by Christmas. I shipped a month later than you will, and I was in week 3 by Christmas. If you get to a school, they might let you take leave.

Ok cool. Thank you all. It'd be great to be done by Christmas, if not, no biggie. Graduations are only held on Friday's right?

Graduations are usually held on Fridays, but federal holidays can screw that up. I remember last 4th of July they graduated on a Wednesday because Thursday was the 4th and the 5th was a training day. I'm not sure about Christmas since I was home on leave at that point.

You should expect a holiday routine and special food at galley. All the rest is the same as regular Sunday.
