34 and going to RTC
 

Hi everyone,

Just curious if any others are shipping to RTC in their 30's? I have always wanted to serve and am looking forward to the adventure. I'm 34 and shipping in April as an MM-S.

Yep shipping June 2nd. I am 31 and will be 32 right after boot!

Yeah, I'm sure we will get the Grandpa comments, but we will be good mentors. I'm going as Machinist Mate on Submarines.

So do you plan on making the navy a career?

I'm going to be 33 when I ship on July. HM. glad I'm not the only one. lol.

Awesome! At least there are 3 of us. I'm not sure on the career part yet, but wanted a change and new adventure. At some point I want to be a Navy Counselor, but have to put my time in first. HM is the rate I want. I have a DAR in. We will see.

It is a thread on here somewhere called "for the grandpa's" check that out. It has a few more of us OLD young guys! Lol

Not quite 30's yet but I am shipping to rtc Monday at the age of 28. I will be 29 the week after I graduate. Going in as an mms as well so I might see you around.

It's going to be great to have so many good friends. This site is a blessing. It is making the transition much easier and it will be interesting to see where we all end up.

Just signed my new contract and it will be March 18th and I'm keeping my original rate! AV

Hey we ship the same day! There's another future sailor from my recruiting station that ships that day too and has the same rate as you.

I take this back. I heard today that she backed out of her contract.

Where are you located bubba? That may have been the contract I just acquired

In northern California. What about you? That actually would make a lot of sense if you did end up getting her contract. Same date and rate.

Well maybe not then. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Just out of curiosity, since you live in Indiana will you be flying to RTC or be taking a bus?

I believe they may drive me there. In really not sure I'll find out Tue. But driving would be the cheapest route.

At 34 you will def. be on the oldest guys there, and probably older than your RDC's.

I was 28, and wasn't the oldest in my Division but I was like #3. Its not a big deal in the end. Age really isn't a big thing in the mil. Just don't go drink at hotel parties with kids who aren't 21. Not worth risking your career for one night with partying with the "kids"

Volunteer to be a leadership role, it will help you out if you get the chance for the advanced placement board in the end. You won't get points, but it will make you look like you were trying since boot.

Thanks for the info and advice. I am going in as E3 and I am going to work hard and keep away from the young drinking scene. I want move up and go on an adventure with my family. I'm also looking forward to becoming a Navy Counselor some day.

The "kids" here at A-school call me DAD lol cause I just turned 29. But guess what my age got me? AAP to E4 in 4 months so if they wanna call me DAD they can also call me AT3 lol

Hey, folks! I will be 31 when I go off to boot. Keeping up with those whipper-snappers in PT may be a little bit of a challenge, but I do not care. As long as I can pass my PFT, that's all that matters. I just hope none of those snot-nosed little brats are the cocky type who mouth off just to get more IT for all of us! But whatever, I'm sure I'll be fine as long as they let me bring my walker to RTC :wink:
