Phone Cards?

Do you need to take a phone card to basic? or is like a option to have one? can you call without a phone card?

Cinders 07-25-2012 01:38 PM

Free calling cards

You can get free calling cards go to Callsforrecruits.org and they will send them to you. You will need a calling card to make calls but not the I am here call.

Cinders beat me to it:-) Kudos to Callsforrecruits.org
You will need a calling card to make calls when you are allowed to.

Yes, get one just don't get a lot of minutes. Michael never even got to use his up (and it didn't have a lot on it). He didn't get that many calls when he was going to BC. But do get one.

i went through 4 in separation. You can't make a call without one (except the "i got here phone call")

My son was there over Christmas/New Years a couple of years ago and the community group that "adopted" him let him make some calls to us and I'm sure he used all of the minutes that he was given.

Dr.Depper 07-25-2012 07:22 PM

Do they actually send it in the mail or email? how does that site work?

stevebw 07-25-2012 11:38 PM

Email them and they should give you a reply :-)

I can vogue for Callsforrecruits.org
They are an awesome group....

Just email them, and you got phone cards. It's not a scam, its just a guy that wants to pay back to our military....

Can anyone recommend which phone card to buy or where to get them. I'll probably need more than most as I will be making a few international calls (assuming they let me). Most of the cards these days are meant for mobile phones, and the one I did find for land lines (AT&T) has really bad reviews bc they charge you weird amounts extra for different calls to various states...and using it internationally would only give me about 200 min. for a 1000 minute card! Not a good value for the money. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated!

thanks!

You get your first phone call when you first arrive at RTC. From there, you'll get to make a call from time to time if your RDCs allow it (basically you have to earn them). You can always write home though.

Typically 3 or 4.
-The night you get there
-About 4 weeks
-About 6 weeks
-About 7 or 8 weeks

That is, of course, assuming your division doesn't lose your phone privileges for some reason.
