Is there any way to guarantee an ATO contract?

This is what I want to do with the Navy.

Air power and Aircraft carriers have always fascinated me. My ASVAB score is a 91 with AFQTs all in the 100s or 120s.

If I pick AV is it random if I get AE/ATI/ATO or are there things I can do to influence where I end up?

You can pick whichever aviation rate you would like. The only one that is up to chance is AT(I/O). If you pick AT you will be told specifics during bootcamp. Some factors could disqualify you from aviation too, just be aware (i.e. bad eye sight)
The rate may be over manned as well. If it's open you could definitely grab it.

Do you mean that I can pick AT and narrow my chances to 50/50?

I understand it might be closed and I'll have to pick something else or if I'm DQ'd from it then fine. I'll need a waiver for hydronephrosis anyway so its kind of an if i get in anyway. Just doing research ahead of time.

AT has two sub-rates (ATI/ ATO). I wouldn't say 50/50. Which one you get depends on the needs of the Navy (as do most things).

I've never heard of anyone getting ATx or AE in their contract... only AV. While it's generally needs of the Navy, there may be some consideration given to scores if multiple ratings are available.

It's random, no consideration on ASVAB scores, I was curious and asked around while I was at AT A-school.
