Female with dependents looking for advice!

I leave in May and i have two small children I'm just wondering if anyone else has any tips or advice for a mother who isn't usually away from her kids.

Depending on how old your children are, and if you are married or not...just explain to them in the best terms they understand what you are doing. As for yourself, keep telling yourself that you are going to make a better life for them and tell yourself it isn't forever you will be gone.

I was away from my kids for 7 months while going through boot camp and a-school. I’m very close with my kiddos and had never been away from them. At the time they were 7 and 4. I’m not gonna lie. It was tough. Especially the lonely boot camp nights. But, it gets easier. I hate to say that, but it does. The first couple of weeks are going to suck. You’re getting yelled at, stressed out beyond belief, and treated like a turd for the first three weeks. By the forth week you’ll have fallen into the routine and it gets easier. During that stressful couple of weeks all you can think about is what you left behind.

A-school is like recess, though. You’ll be able to call and communicate more easily with home. FaceTime, Skype, and stuff will make it better if they do t come with you (mine didn’t come with me). Now that I’m in the reserve and spend most of my time at home it’s even easier. It’s like I get a two week paid vacation every year!

Same boat. Good luck. I leave in Feb, What is your rate?

I’m a Personel Specialist. I started off as a Crypto Networks, but that school was a bit too fast paced for this old man. I’m currently in the process of changing rates. Not sure what I’ll end up with at this point.
