SCI clearance

Shipping in a few weeks to be CTI.

When will the clearance process take place, at basic or after completion of A-school?

Any advice on what to expect from the process?

The process has already started. You started it with the SF-86 form you completed prior to going to MEPS. Most likely they'll get your SECRET out of the way first and start on your SSBI while you're at boot.

While you're at boot you may have to go talk to some folks for a few interviews. They'll ask for references, dates, locations, that kind of stuff. Don't sweat it. They try to make it high stress for a reason.

That investigation will go on, but it can take months to get everything they need. So more than likely you'll end up at A-school and have to sit tight for a while until they get your clearance through. This is extremely common so again, just wait it out. Once your clearance comes through then you'll be allowed to continue on with everything.

Once you're done with A-school, if you're going to one of the major NIOC sites you'll also need a polygraph. I can't tell you what's on it specifically because if I do it might throw your answers off and potentially fail you if you're taking about it to much (yes that happens). Suffice to say it's really basic crap like "Hey, are you a terrorist? Are you a spy? Are you going to steal stuff?" So don't sweat the poly unless you're actually a terrorist or a spy ;)

Or you could be like me and not have the sci part started till you reach your command because the investigator let your paperwork sit on his desk. But all will be well. You just will be in holding for a while.

Usually it's less they forgot about you and more DONCAF being picky about some small detail. They sent stuff back to us all the time for really minor changes. So that adds time sending things back and forth.
