Accents

Weird question but I have been told I have a Florida accent(almost southern drawl but not quite). We Floridians say alot of things different than everybody else. I was wondering if RDCs will be mean and really personal and make fun of how I talk?

From what I've heard, they pick on you about anything and everything they can. I have a southern accent also and I've been told I will get hell for it. But you just gotta let it roll off your back and not take it personally.

I'm from N. of Orlando and also have been told by many people from up North that I have an accent. Idk. It's what it is. They'll most likely give you crap for it but what can you do? haha

Accent or no accent! They'll find something to pick on you for!

Put a smile on your face and thank god they aren't making fun of the size of your manship :P

I'm from back woods GA and I didnt hear a comment on my accent. Just keep your head down, and keep yourself of their radar and you could go through boot without them even knowing your name.

Same here, I'm front Georgia and I've got an accent, but got nothing on it in bootcamp. Another girl had a really southern accent and the RDC's pointed it out everytime she spoke. We had a guy that came from Mexico and his english wasn't exactly perfect. The RDC's dogged him on it until graduation week. I think it'll depend on your RDC and how much you make yourself known in the Div.

I didn't really think I had one until I oovoo'd with some people here. Apparently I do.

culp7 10-07-2012 09:58 PM

Oh well, I say let em hate on the south. They just wish they were from there!

I personally think for many people that Cajuns have the hardest to understand...fortunately most of my family is Cajun and I hear it all the time.

I think everyone else will have the same deal. I'm from New England, so they'll think I have a Boston accent. I have to work on saying "Future Sailor" without it sounding like "Futecha Saylah."

prop827 10-24-2012 06:46 PM

hahahaha love the Boston accent, mine only comes out when I'm angry (or just drunk....). But don't sweat it, the RDCs will find something to pick on EVERYONE for. Just don't sweat it, its all just part of the mind game.

As i've been told from my dad who is former US Army, its a part of the break down process. They break you down so they can build you back up.

try having both a Mississippi and Louisiana accent.. I get crap for it everywhere I go.
