TS Clearance

So I was able to qualify for a position as a CTN and I'm aware that the job deals with sensitive information , I'm just worried about the polygraph test as everyone hypes it up to be something that makes or breaks you. Would I really need one to do my job and if so when would i be given it . Thanks.

I would imagine you would get Re-rated because I believe Cryptologic rates require Top Secret clearances.

You will definitely be given a polygraph. All NSA jobs require a polygraph. If you get your interim SCI clearance in order to start your school then I wouldn't worry about it unless you're a spy or a terrorist. The polygraph you'll be given will be towards the end of your school (unless you're a reservist - they usually get theirs before everyone else for some reason). The type of polygraph is a counterintelligence (CI). Presumably, you've never sold classified information to a foreign country or engaged in activities to overthrow the U.S. government, so you should be okay

Barbazu pretty much nailed it.

As a CTN you will need a poly. But it's nothing to freak out about and people hype this thing up waaaaay more than it needs to be. As someone who's been there and done that, I can honestly say it didn't live up to the hype. As long as you're not planning on being a spy you will cruise through it.

The people that love to hype that sh!t up are almost always people who haven't done one. So if someone is giving you some wild story about it (usually they say "oh my friend did it"), they're almost certainly full of crap. It's really not something you need to lose sleep over, trust me. Just be 100% honest on anything dealing with your clearance and you'll never have anything to sweat over.
