Getting stuff after PIR

So from what I understand, I'll be able to receive a bag full of my personal effects after PIR, at the airport waiting to be shipped out, which as a nuke, will most likely be early saturday morning. I do have a few questions about the bag itself and the contents though.

A: does the bag have to fit any specific requirements? I remember vaguely hearing a while back it has to be all black, which means i'll have to replace my very stylish white striped jansport.

B: are there any items that really shouldn't be sent? I was definitely going to put my phone, laptop, documents, etc, but also a pair of running shoes and one pairs of civvies [pair of jeans, tshirt, and maybe some running/outdoor shorts].

thanks in advance!

Once you've graduated, there's not a lot you can't have, unless the rules at nuke school are way stricter than at mine. Clothes, electronics, etc. should all be perfectly fair.

As to the bag, it does have to be solid black, no logos, if you intend to WEAR it in uniform, as opposed to carrying it in hand (in which case anything tasteful goes). Bear in mind though that you will already be wearing your full seabag on your back, and carrying your issued black backpack and garment bag as well. You might want to have some follow-on items shipped to you rather than try to hoof it all at once.

Really it's gonna be much easier to just have it sent to you the week you get there. Unless you absolutely, positively can't live without a laptop for an extra 3-4 days (he said with heavy sarcasm).

You won't have to lug around more crap than you already will be (seabag isn't small), seeing as you'll be both traveling AND running around base getting settled in.

Just my 2 cents though!

Consider being extremely strict about what you "need" sent to you, by the way. You're going to be at school for quite a while, giving you tons of time to slowly accumulate homey junk that you will eventually have to send back home or throw away when you realize how little of it you can actually keep (due to space restrictions) when you go to a ship. The longer you can get by with minimum, the less trouble it'll be in the future.

If someone told me this when I was in A school (and if I'd listened, ha ha) my car's trunk and backseat might not be currently full of crap I need to drive home with me to leave behind.

Forget the civies until you get there...you cant wear them until you complete a certain amount of time anyway.(usually 2 or 3 weeks, depending on when you class up)..by then you will have an address to have stuff sent to you. Get your cell phone, that will be handy to have, but know the cell reception sucks there!

Thanks for all the advice. I've decided on donating most of my old clothes, and packing a small-ish duffel bag that I'll get shipped to me after PIR

I will ask my parents to bring my phone, laptop, toiletries and all in a black messenger bag. would that be allowed or is it backpacks only?

Should be just fine. You can't wear a messenger bag across your chest, but on one shoulder is authorized. Good luck finding a free shoulder.
