Who ships out in april?

nicholson1211 02-28-2014 01:15 PM

I hear we have to wear "granny panties" anyway!

Hey, folks! I will be 31 when I go off to boot. Keeping up with those whipper-snappers in PT may be a little bit of a challenge, but I do not care. As long as I can pass my PFT, that's all that matters. I just hope none of those snot-nosed little brats are the cocky type who mouth off just to get more IT for all of us! But whatever, I'm sure I'll be fine as long as they let me bring my walker to RTC

whitkid22 03-02-2014 12:17 PM

I'm excited to be able to focus on working out and watching the show. Much less stressful than the job I have now. :wavetowel2:

Strong 2 mile today guys. Feeling awesome. How are everyone's workouts going? Feeling stoked for this experience. We are mentally tough and we are going to do great.:bubbleheads::running20stick20man

Question

Not exactly sure if 27 gets me Grandpa category but I think I relate more to the 30's than the younger recruits. I ship out 20140609 IT/ATF. Be nice to get to know some guys.

SoulGlo 03-18-2014 06:37 PM

whitkid22 - Just curious. When do you turn 35 and when did you go to MEPS?

johnplisac32 03-18-2014 08:49 PM

I was 32 in boot camp and in great shape my rdc's did notice me more than the kids I also was the ma for our division but got fired cause I was too hard on the kids as for being older boot camp should be easier if you have any other questions just pm me I am more than happy to help

I wouldn't call my runs "strong" just yet. I never ran in my life until I started training for this a little over two months ago. I got my mile down to 11 minutes, so I still have work to do. I have also never been able to do a push-up and am getting REALLY close. I'm 55 lbs down, so at least that is good!

Angst 04-11-2014 07:27 PM

I went through at 32. Lack of caffeine and sleep sucks. Dealing with teenagers sucks, if you don't step up for leadership positions your RDC's will ride your ass the entire time, trust me I know from experience. You will most assuredly be older than even your first class. I was a year younger than my chief.

All of the work you're doing is good, but it's not going to help you. You sit around doing nothing in pdays, you're not "allowed" to exercise until you clear medical. We were told by our RDC's at pearl that the racks can be hazardous, and recruits sometimes fall out and land in the pushup position after taps. Your mileage may vary.

Just remember as you get chewed out by people younger than you, the fleet is entirely different than a school. And it's the next time you'll feel like an adult again.

My advice, skip the push-ups after taps and sleep as much as you possibly can, whenever you can. You will be more than ready to pass the PFA by the time you're ready to graduate.

FutureSailor316 04-21-2014 04:20 PM

Not 30 yet but turn 27 in basic. Probably going to be one of the older ones there.

1.5mile run in 9:32. 82 curl ups in 2 minutes....still working on push ups but I can do at least 40. I want to shave a minute off my run, do 100 curl ups and at least 80 push ups.

Robertson 04-21-2014 04:54 PM

I just turned 33. Going to MEPS on Thursday....lol...I guess I'll be joining the grandpa club too! Oh wow, really, a grandpa?...lol

Charlize 04-25-2014 10:04 AM

Turned 34 in BC. I was worried as well, but somehow i blend in pretty well. Most of my shipmates were shocked to find out my age. Just because i was afraid to fail my PFA i did better than many 18 year olds ( 30 push ups, 70 sit ups, 13.04 run). We had a 39 year old in our division. She was an ex cop, so she really kicked some ass. I wish somebody gave me heads up about the age.

aturi 04-29-2014 09:18 PM

Hi guys. Another "grandpa" showing up to this thread.
I will go to bootcamp on November 18, 2014 with 34 years.
I was wondering if someone "grandpish" will
go on those days.

jbogle 05-08-2014 07:03 AM

Well...looks like I got everyone beat! I'll be going in at 39!!!
It's only for the reserves, but at least I'll be able to fulfill a 20 year old dream.

I juts have to work on dropping some more body fat and I'll be set.
If everything falls into place, I hope to ship out in July or August.

Devereux 05-09-2014 04:29 PM

I didn't even know the cut off was at 34...that's awesome though, good for you man.

I know I am WAY late on this thread, but I am 34 and just now going thru all the steps to enlist. Like you I will only be in reserve being that I have a daughter in high school and want to see her do a lot of things though. Reading this is definitely refreshing though. Lets me know that there are lots of older adults that go to BC.

Navy1013 09-08-2014 12:32 PM

i will be 35 and at RTC for active. I know I will be one of the older ones there. I can hope I get a good div, not one full of immature little kids

Shipping out 20150303 as a MM, unless my DAR gets approved. Either way, RTC will be what you make it. Going in at our ages = tolerance! Yes, we will be surrounded by people much younger than us, but I also feel that we'll be better prepared for a leadership role in RTC...if you so desire.

I just hope I don't get punished too bad or too often being surrounded by immaturity....even at 39, I can still get myself in enough trouble as it is :laugh1:

I don't think we're going to get picked on for being older, but the way some kids act in my DEP pool makes no sense. Some kid the other day thought it was a good idea to talk back to a chief, seriously, WTF are you smoking?

I'm not saying I won't screw up because I'm not perfect and I surely will, but my brother said that you'll get so tired of getting beat all the time because of the stupid mindless sh** younger recruits say and do.

And I'm not calling out just young bucks, there's no age limit on that behavior. But I'm told that generally, most always, it's the younger recruits.

Gremmin 09-10-2014 12:11 PM

I just turned 31 and I'm waiting to go to meps. I actually wouldn't mind the grandpa comments but I already know I'm not going to get them since most people I meet think that I just got out of high school. I'm trying to get into air crew and hopefully I can get an waiver to get in.

Nicknyte 09-10-2014 12:43 PM

26 going to boot myself. Don't feel to odd about it, but I will enjoy being the grandpa. As I told some Marine officers recently "Someone has to watch the kids while you do nothing" AHA.
