Aircrew Survival Equipmentman (PR)

Aircrew Survival Equipmentmen are responsible for the packing and care of parachutes. They maintain flight clothing, rubber life rafts, life jackets, oxygen-breathing apparatus, protective clothing, and air-sea rescue equipment.

Aircrew Survival Equipmentman (PR's) are responsible for keeping parachutes, life rafts, personal flight gear, and other aviation survival gear in proper working condition. These technicians may also volunteer to fly as Naval Aircrew. Aircrew performs numerous in-flight duties and operates aircraft systems in turbojet, helicopter, or propeller aircraft.



The duties performed by PRs include:

inspecting, maintaining and repairing survival equipment, flight gear and protective clothing (anti-gravity suits etc.)
using, adjusting, maintaining and repairing sewing machines;
repairing, packing and rigging parachutes;
inspecting and testing oxygen regulators, liquid oxygen converters and safety equipment;
repairing, packing and rigging parachutes;
equipping and packing life rafts;
manufacturing various types of fabric work and webbing assemblies used in survival equipment.
Working Environment
Duties in the PR rating are usually performed indoors in aircraft hangars and on board carriers. They also may work outdoors on flight decks and on Naval Air Station flight lines.



A-School (Job School) Information

Pensacola, FL --40 calendar days
Pensacola, FL -- 18 calendar days
Security Clearance Requirement: None required (except those who volunteer for aircrew duty)

First Sea Tour: 36 months
First Shore Tour: 42 months
Second Sea Tour: 36 month
Second Shore Tour: 36 month
Third Sea Tour: 42 month
Third Shore Tour: 36 month
Fourth Sea Tour: 42 month
Forth Shore Tour: 36 month
Note: Sea tours and shore tours for sailors that have completed four sea tours will be 36 months at sea followed by 36 months ashore until retirement.
